Privacy Domain Name Standard Information – CIRA and Whois Proposals

The Canadian Internet Registration Authority has recently announced a new domain name privacy standard in Whois. There are several new reports that CIRA has proposed new standards for IP Whois privacy. With these standards, there will be better privacy for dot-ca (.ca) domain names and the people who will be registering them.

Domain name Whois privacy standards will soon come in line with the countries newly enacted privacy laws. The hottest topic in the general public at the present time is about the new proposed domain name Whois policies. Part and parcel to these policies, CIRA will require more complete information for domain name owners. Registering a name may require more personal information, but less of it will be available to people through the Whois look up database.

The purpose of introducing domain name policies regarding Whois privacy is to give more protection to those people who register domain name than the current protection that is available. That is the assumption of the Canadian Internet Registration Authority. Even those who register dot-com domain names need protection of their personal information on Whois database. According to the president or CEO of CIRA, it is all about protecting resident’s fundamental rights to privacy even in virtual reality.

It has also been stated by the CEO that the internet is an informative and wonderful force, however, there needs to be more protection so that the internet serves individuals and not the other way around.

Basically, the policy changes state that any name registered as a dot-ca will only have limited information in the Whois database regarding registration date, address of the domain name owner, status of the domain name, server and IP numbers as well as the name of the person who owns the domain name.

You should know that this only affects names that have been registered by individuals. Organizations will find that their information will be unchanged in the domain name Whois privacy. Finally, CIRA plans to ensure that all this information is fully available to many law enforcement agencies.

There are many good reasons for introducing domain name information privacy standards in Whois database. Canadian internet registration authority asserts that these policies may even set a new standard among other domain names.
